Every handoff closed, every loop accounted for
Work is lost between systems more often than inside them. One commercial thread, followed across every crossing it makes.
Order to cash · Part 5 of 4
Work is lost between systems more often than inside them. A quote becomes an order in one tool, a shipment in another and an invoice in a third, and each crossing is a place where a request can be dropped without anyone deciding to drop it.
This scenario follows one commercial thread across every crossing it makes.
Building it
Cnaan gives each thread a single record of what was asked, what was promised and what has happened, fed by the systems the operation already runs. Each handoff has an owner and a clock.
When a clock runs out, the next step is taken if a rule allows it, or put in front of its owner if not. Either way the thread does not go quiet.
What changes
- Nothing depends on someone remembering to check.
- Managers see the open loops themselves, not a report about last week's.
- Customers stop being the monitoring system for their own orders.
The operation does not get faster by pushing people harder. It gets faster because nothing is waiting unnoticed.
